Prospective NW200 Newcomers Fine Tune Preparations

Prospective North West 200 debutants visited recently the illustrious Triangle course, fine tuning their circuit knowledge.

Racers gaining tips from NW200 Clerk of The Course Stanleigh Murray, Mervyn Whyte and eight- times event winner Steve Plater included BSB participant last year, Leon Jeacock.

An extremely accomplished purpose-built circuits exponent, Jeacock is no stranger to roads paddocks, having been on mechanic duties for multiple years for Hawk Racing, working with competitors including 21 times TT winner Michael Dunlop.

Speaking recently, he stated:

“It is funny seeing the course this week with no paddock set-up or grandstands because I hadn’t seen it like that before.

I love the high speed of the course and am really looking forward to taking on Station corner.”

An impressive newcomer last year at the Manx Grand Prix, Obsession Engineering supported Martin Morris is looking forward to joining the NW200 rider ranks.

The Kidderminster racer stated:

“I think I will enjoy the NW200 course. The roads are wide plus very fast and flowing. I am looking forward to learning it on the Super Twin machine and then see how we go on the big bike.”

It’s the World Skiing Championships at present and would you believe it an ex professional level skier, is NW200 bound. His name is Gerald Dath.

Commenting about the process of learning the 8.9 miles long Triangle course, the Montpellier racer who has secured previously IRRC event points finishes, said:

“There is so much detail that I have to learn. There will be a lot of heavy braking area and a lot of very fast sections plus the coast road looks very technical.”

Gorilla Racing’s Don Gilbert, Belfast’s Darren Duncan joined Dath on the NW200 newcomer induction days.

Macau GP runner-up David Datzer had also hoped to travel to Northern Ireland before illness (pneumonia) prevented this.

Reminder pending insurance issues cleared up, race week at the 2023 FonaCAB/Nicholl Oils North West 200 runs from the 7th-13th of May.
