Making a prodigious return to purpose built circuit racing action, three times Irish Road Race Superbike Champion Derek Sheils lit up the latest rounds of the 2022 Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship.
15th in this month’s Senior TT, Sheils reminded everyone on Saturday, Sunday of his potent circuit racing skillset.
Superbike race one proceedings around the national Mondello Park circuit, saw the Roadhouse Macau BMW mounted racer hold off the gritty, tenacious attentions of Thomas O’Grady, to score race success by only 0.216 of a second.
The second Superbike race stint would see O’Grady again provide the toughest opposition to pace setter Sheils, who banked in style another race win, this time by the impressive margin of 4.074 seconds.
Final Superbike race stint, ended in disappointment for Classic TT podium finisher Sheils, who was looking good for a third successive big bike triumph before sliding off non-injured out of contention.
This weekend sees Sheils return to the real roads scene, sampling the Country Crest Skerries 100, as he aims to go into double figures wins wise at Southern Ireland’s eldest pure road race.
