Earlier this week, Road Racing News travelled to Scarborough, to catch up with Oliver’s Mount Racing Director, Andy Hayes.
It has been a busy winter for the OM organising team, making sure everything is tip top, maintained and ready for next month’s Spring Cup (11th-12th April).
New to the race paddock this year is a new Dyno centre, housed in a shipping container.
Outlining the significance of implementing this, he said:
“The Dyno is probably the main thing, and it has cost a lot of money and taken a lot of work, but I think it moves us up to another level and I would say I don’t know of another racetrack that has got its own personal dyno.”
Another dose of positivity revolves around entry-fees, insurance:
“We have not had to put fees up largely because the ACU has managed to actually- reduce their insurance fees.”
Racers have till the 8th of March to officiate their interest (via the new online entry system) in sampling the Bob Smith Spring Cup (hopefully televised) which looks set to boast Ducati, Triumph exotica tens of rising, established, new wave roads scene pilots.
As previously reported, 2026 Spring Cup classes are Pro Supersport (next generation/tuned contemporary middleweight machines), Stock Supersport (130 break horsepower limit), Super Twins, Mini Twins, yesteryear Classic Superbike, Super Mono.
Formula 2 Sidecars, Pre-Injection Sidecars, 2-Stroke 126-500cc race bikes solely, 2-Stroke 126-500cc/4-Stroke Production race-bikes, 2-Stroke 125cc/Moto 3, Super Moto, and CB 500’s.
Delighted to finally have next generation Supersport steeds at Scarborough, Andy stated why the newly created Stock Supersport category is important, giving those not next-gen metal equipped opportunities to thrive.
“We need something for the lads and lasses who are talented but haven’t got endless pots of money to throw at this and I think this stock Supersport class is a class they can shine in.”
Going onto discuss the main access route to Oliver’s Mount, the latest is:
“The short-term future is a plastic track, until we get planning permission.
When we get planning permission the medium-term future is a two-way stone road, the long-term future is a repair to Jackson’s Lane.”
With Oliver’s Mount celebrating this September at the Gold Cup its eightieth anniversary, the former Manx GP racer now Scarborough racing custodian is putting plans together to bring world-famous faces back to North Yorkshire’s ‘Mini TT.’
In talks with a Mountain Course, international road racing ‘Alien,’ exciting times are on the horizon for England’s only active road race circuit and one of Yorkshire’s all-time great sporting venues.
