One Incredible IRRC Moment: Laurent Hoffmann

Next to feature in Road Racing News, new One Incredible IRRC Moment series, is none other than twice IRRC Supersport Champion, Laurent Hoffmann.

Third overall within the all-time series race winners list, his favourite recollection from his time sampling IRRC events to date, is as follows:

“For me it’s hard to just choose one moment after 12 years of IRRC racing. One nice moment was my first win after my crash at the TT the year before.

It was raining in Chimay and I started P7. After the first lap I was leading already by 7 seconds. Went onto win the race by 23 seconds!

There’s also Imatra 2018. It was raining on one part of the circuit and dry on the other. I was on slicks and most riders were on wets, every lap they overtook me in the wet part, and I did the same on the dry part.

Somehow, I managed to be a bit faster on the wet but drying track so I could just keep enough advantage to win with a very small margin.”

Laurent continued:

“The other nice memory is when I became the Champion, for the first time in 2012.

I won in Frohburg but at the podium ceremony they told me I had one point short to become champion, but shortly after the board came to tell me they mis counted the points and that I was the new champion by one point!

I can’t forget as well from 2021 when I made it on the podium in both races in the Superbike category, fighting the whole race with the tough concurrence.

There were a few people who told me I would never make it on the podium in a Superbike race. Guess I proved them wrong!”
