Next to take part in Road Racing News, revamped Oliver’s Mount Top 8 series is 2024 Duke Road Race Rankings runner-up, top Northwest 200 newcomer of 2022, Mad Bros Racing’s Gary McCoy.
2024 King of The Mount, Cock O’The North feature race winner, his answers to the set of questions, are as follows:
Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?
“Arriving at Scarborough for the spring cup in 2021 with MadBros as a newcomer, rolling into the paddock and pulling the handbrake in the middle of paddock (A) as nobody was around at 5am (not even the geese).
We had spent the night driving down to Scarbados from Cairnryan in a ropey loaned motorhome with a trailer in tow on a hitch that felt like it had a hinge in the middle! The boys all asleep in the motorhome and Jonny navigating from the passenger seat!
A brilliant road trip and what going racing is all about.”
Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?
“It’s just an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere and everyone is lovely! It’s a brilliant little track.”
Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?
“Two come to mind. ‘Memorial in’ just as you’re grabbing a handful of brake at the end of the long back straight and wondering if you’ll get stopped in time for the apex!
But I do love the stretch of road from Mountside Hairpin to just before Jefferies jump through the big compression, but the belly pan doesn’t seem to like it.”
Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?
“There have been many great moments over the past two seasons. I’d say winning the ‘Cock O The North’ this year. It’s nice to repay the team for all their efforts!”
Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?
“Got to be Ian Lougher!”
Q6: Is there one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?
“TZ250 (Yamaha).”
Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?
“Technical.”
Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?
“Every rider on the grid!”
