Next to take part in Road Racing News, revamped Oliver’s Mount Top 8 series is second quickest Scarborough newcomer of 2024, prospective first-time Manx Grand Prix entrant David McArthur.
Supersport B race 1 winner at last year’s Barry Sheene Festival, his answers to the set of questions, are as follows: are as follows:
Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?
“The track-walk on the Friday with Roddy Taylor. You can watch as many onboards as you want but it doesn’t prepare you for how steep it is.”
Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?
“Really tough to choose. I love the circuit, but it’s got to be the people. From the officials, marshals, competitors and spectators; it’s super friendly with a great atmosphere.”
Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?
“That would be the run through Jefferies jumps and down into farm bends.”
Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?
“2024 Barry Sheene meeting. Winning the B race by over 30 seconds despite a penalty for a jump start. Was only my second event there.
Or qualifying 6th at the Gold Cup, shame the weather didn’t improve that weekend. Hope we’ll be able to keep improving this year.”
Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?
“#122 David Suddes. From the moment I met Dave he was so helpful. Would always pop in the gazebo after each race, usually to give me a pile of cheek with a big smile. He would never see anyone stuck, or hungry with his Saturday night Chinese.”
Q6: Is there one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?
“A classic Superbike.”
Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?
“Addictive”
Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?
“Everyone who races there. But have huge respect for Johnny Stewart and what he achieved last year.”
