Once prize presentations for opening four-stroke, yesteryear races finished, the countdown ramped up towards the second IRRC Horice Supersport encounter.
A ten-lap distance laid in prospect for riders and fastest out the blocks was Ulster Grand Prix winner, top ten finisher from TT 2024, Adam McLean. Soon afterwards the race was red flagged.
At near 1:25 PM (UK time), racing re-started with Performance Racing Achterhoek’s McLean again speediest off the line.
Dramatically towards lap one’s finalisation, IRRC Supersport Championship leader Marek Cerveny retired!
Cerveny went into this race with an 18-point Championship lead over 56-plate holder McLean, who now had a prime opportunity to attain Championship leaders’ position.
Passed towards lap three’s conclusion by race pole-sitter Petr Najman, McLean in second was by lap five, 0.9 in arrears but almost seven seconds in front of third-place occupier Wolfgang ‘Wolfi’ Schuster.
Although set to enhance his Championship placing, McLean wasn’t giving up victory aspirations, keeping new Supersport lap-record holder Najman (Lap 7 – 2.15.877 seconds) extremely honest.
Going onto the eighth, last lap, Najman had a modest below 0.8 of a second race lead.
Ultimately, the Czech ace would acquire race honours by 2.657 seconds, setting on lap eight, another new record Supersport lap record (2.15.636).
McLean second, as earlier forecast in this article, is into the lead of this year’s IRRC Supersport Championship.
Late race issues dropped Wolfgang Schuster back to sixth as Ilja Caljouw edged Karel Brandtner for the final spot on the sun-drenched podium.
Gary Johnson placed fifth as Michal Dokoupil, Mauro Poncini, Matous Ondrusz, Thomas Wendel claimed remaining top ten leader-board positions.
