MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix: Kernohan, Elkin Take Opening Lightweight, Ultra Lightweight Race Spoils

Concluding a long, long day of timed practice, race action at the MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix, the jointly run Belfast International Airport Lightweight, Ultra Lightweight races provided more top quality competition at Dundrod.

Lightweight class honours went the way of Logan Racing’s Neil Kernohan, who was never headed in the five lap race.

Plus eight seconds behind the dominant Kernohan in second place, was Banbridge’s Shaun Anderson, whilst reigning Newcomers A Manx GP runner up Darryl Tweed lead the 400 machinery challenge in wrapping up the rostrum finishers.

Fellow high calibre 400 class specialist Stephen Morrison finished fourth, Gareth Keys was fifth as Paul Gartland, Lloyd Collins, Bryan Harding, Fabrice Faivre and Aaron Boyd concluded the first ten finishers.

Reflecting on an attritional Ultra Lightweight race, it was Christian Elkin who reigned supreme, clinching class honours by a margin of over 30 seconds!

With long term nearest pursuer Paul Robinson a retirement on lap four, this paved the way for the Czech Republic’s Michal Dokoupil to scoop a hugely popular second place finish.

The vastly experienced Nigel Moore banked the final spot on the podium, whilst Melissa Kennedy, Lorenzo Tiveron and Sarah Boyes all enjoyed extremely productive races in acquiring more than creditable fourth, fifth, sixth place finishes.
