Manx GP: Team York Suzuki/Norbury Join Forces

Talk of The Town title supported Team York Suzuki, 100th Anniversary Manx Grand Prix tilt sees them join forces with 2019 Steve Henshaw Gold Cup runner-up, Mountain Course racing returnee, Mike Norbury.

Since venturing back to racing on the roads in July, Norbury has been in extremely proficient form in particular at the Oliver’s Mount Barry Sheene Classic, when astride for the first time, his aforementioned suitors’ yesteryear Superbike.

Victorious in the two Classic Superbike races that took place, his showings proved more than enough to convince Team York Suzuki, that he is the right racer to replace twice TT winner Gary Johnson, who before early season injuries, was primed to pilot GSX-R 750 S-RAD tackle.

Speaking recently via Facebook, Norbury fifth from the latest ‘Race of Legends’ at Armoy, stated:

“This is a great opportunity for me to gain some more track time around the Mountain Course.

I would like to thank Kevin his team and sponsors for making this happen, I loved riding the SRAD around Scarborough, it was like putting a pair of gloves on.

I also appreciate the effort that has gone on behind the scenes especially from Andy and Emma from Talk of The Town.

Jeff Seddon from Pipe Werx Motorcycle Exhausts, Gary Butfield from the York Suzuki Centre, Andy Hayes from Oliver’s Mount.

I would also like to thank Paul Phillips, Bruce Baker and Michelle at the ACU for their time and effort.”

Team York Suzuki Team Manager Kevin Pearson, added:

“We asked Mike to step in at Oliver’s Mount to put some mileage on our new classic Superbike which we had built for Gary Johnson.

We were speechless after just 2 laps of qualifying Mike was obviously happy with the bike and put her on the front row then going on to win both of his races.

When it became obvious Gary was not going to be fit Mike was the natural-choice he knew the bike and the team, we had a meeting on Tuesday night and Mike was a unanimous choice.

So, the last 48 hours have been mental to say the least but we can now prepare the bike with confidence.”
