The first practice of the 2012 Macau Grand Prix started in cloudy but dry conditions. It was the SMT Honda of John Mcguinness who set the pace in opening practice lapping in the 2.29s John was comfortably fastest in front of second fastest Martin Jessopp on the Riders motorcycles Ducati superbike. Whilst 7 times Macau grand prix winner Michael Rutter finished third fastest on the second SMT Honda superbike. 4th fastest was Horst Saiger on his Kawasaki superbike with Gary Johnson completing the top 5 on the Quattro Plant motorsport Honda Fireblade superbike.
