Michael Sweeney ruled supreme in the Principle Insurance Open race, at Kells, illustrating all the qualities that make him one of Irish road racing’s most esteemed competitors.
Led by Brian McCormack, Marcus Simpson after opening lap action, the following lap saw the 2019 Duke Road Race Rankings Champion, take the initiative, registering the race’s top lap time (1.13.714).
1.755 ahead at mid race distance, ‘Micko’ did not let up pace wise across remaining laps, ending victorious by 5.984 seconds.
Roadhouse Macau team’s McCormack took second with Ryan Whitehall a great third as D&D (David & Donna) Buckley Racing’s Simpson slipping to P4, post late race issues.
Darryl Anderson, James Chawke fifth, sixth, just held sway over a charging Kevin Keyes (P7).
Capping off the leaderboard top ten, in the first 1000cc road race encounter in the Republic of Ireland since 2022, were Richard ‘Richie’ McLoughlin (P8), Lee Hara (P9) and Andy Farrell (P10).
