Kells: Sweeney, Oliver, Ryan Star Across Qualifying Sessions

Timed qualifying sessions at the CC’s Unlimited Kells Road Races, showcased in full the talents of various rising Irish roads stars, established national roads super heroes.

Opening qualifying proceedings at the opening Southern Irish roads meeting of the 2020’s was the Senior Support field.

Victorious at Cookstown, the highly rated Jack Oliver just had the edge on 25 plate holder Dean Lacey, to clinch pole position.

0.030 of a second covered Oliver and Lacey whilst third quickest Michael Gahan was only a further 0.427 behind.

Post the Senior Support action, attentions then turned towards the premier Superbike class.

Fresh from a challenging two-week TT stint, Skerries Michael Sweeney also the speediest Supersport exponent this afternoon surged to P1 in qualifying, finishing fastest by 1.75 seconds over nearest chaser Graham Kennedy.

Wilson Craig Racing’s Darryl Tweed finished third fastest, 0.782 ahead of Welshman Matt Rees.

Next-up was the Junior Support fraternity, which saw Senior Support pole sitter Oliver providing prime opposition to long term pace setter Eoin O’Siochru.

Ultimately, prospective Manx GP participant O’Siochru would clinch Junior Support pole by the impressive margin of 1.146 seconds.

Nostalgia a plenty, yesteryear sounds were next to arise around the 2.2 miles long Crossakiel Circuit, as the Junior 250/Junior 350 Classics exponents took centre stage.

John Leigh Pemberton acquired 350 Classics pole whilst 250 Classics qualifying spoils went to RJ Woolsey.

Faraldo Racing’s Keelim Ryan, bagged Lightweight 250/400 combined pole, following strong late session pace.

Nearest challenger to Ryan was a racer whos’ name, I’ve already mentioned on multiple occasions, Jack Oliver.

Remaining qualifying victories went to the following:

The aforementioned trio of Duke Road Race Rankings Champion Michael Sweeney (Grand Final, Supersport & Super Twins), Eoin O’Siochru (125/Moto 3), RJ Woolsey (Supersport 300).

Richard Ford (Senior 500 Classics) and Andy Kildea (Senior 1000 Classics).
