IRRC Imatranajo: Qualifying Wrap Up

Supersport:

In conditions at Imatranajo which no doubt reminded many road racing fans of the wet, damp, inclement weather that graced TT 2019, event wildcards Pauli Pekkanen and Sami Penna showed their skills set and some, in topping today’s overall Supersport qualifying times sheet.

Q1 pace setter, ex British Supersport exponent Pekkanen went almost three seconds quicker than his best time in Q1, in the second qualifying session, lapping at 2 minutes 06.955 seconds, to finish just over sixth tenths of a second quicker than Paukka Racing team mate Sami Penna (2.07.556).

Fellow countryman Felix Nassi (2.08.309) finished third fastest, whilst leading non Finnish competitor was Wepol Racing’s Matthieu Lagrive (2.08.467).

Fifth fastest Anssi Koski (2.09.587) was a further 1.12 seconds behind Lagrive, whilst the sixth, seventh and eighth quickest trio respectively of Ilja Caljouw (2.10.744), Luca Gottardi (2.10.936) and Laurent Hoffmann (2.10.947), were covered by just over 0.2 of a second.

Rounding out the ten fastest Supersport qualifiers were LSE Racing’s Christian Schmitz (2.10.957), and SBRacing Team’s Erwan Bannwart (2.12.377).

Superbike:

Showcasing again a deft touch in tricky, challenging mixed wet, damp, drying conditions, Imatranajo newcomer Davey Todd (2.00.175) stylishly took the spoils in IRRC Superbike qualifying.

2.213 quicker than closest pursuer in qualifying, German roads great Didier Grams (2.02.388), Wepol Racing’s Todd continues to impress, impress and impress within his first racing voyage on Finnish shores.

Team mate, reigning IRRC Superbike champion Danny Webb (2.02.569), piloting this weekend YZF R1M Yamaha machinery, battled his way to third on the qualifying times sheet, finishing just over 0.18 of a second, off the pace shown by respected rival Grams.

Leading the local challenge was event wildcard, Supersport pole sitter Pauli Pekkanen (2.02.904). Joining Pekkanen on the second row of the grid for today’s opening IRRC Superbike encounter, will be fellow countrymen Marko Ratto (2.03.043) and Erno Kostamo (2.03.639).

Row three on the grid for this afternoon’s race action is covered by Marek Cerveny (2.03.877), Lukas Maurer (2.03.994) and Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Virgil Amber Bloemhard (2.04.944).

Concluding the combined ten fastest premier class exponents from qualifying, was local favourite, former TT Races competitor Juha Kallio (2.05.324).
