IRRC 2024 Frohburg qualifying lived up to its pre-event hype, with a fair few event wildcards starring.
In particular, the spotlight loomed on Broncos Racing Team’s Luca Salvadori. As shown earlier this year at Hengelo (Varsselring), Schleizer Dreieck, the Italian rider adapts ultra quick to street circuits and similar vibes arose today at Frohburg.
Almost instantly on unofficial lap-record breaking pace within Q2, Salvadori’s fifth timed lap (1.32.427), unlocked another stratosphere in performance, recording the first (unofficially) 1.32 seconds lap time from IRRC Frohburg activities.
Coming nearest to Salvadori’s striking pole-position capturing time, 1.548 seconds adrift was IRRC SBK Championship leader David Datzer (1.33.975), lapping just under 1 minute 34 seconds.
Third, fourth speediest respectively, Finland’s top pure road racer Erno Kostamo (1.34.110), IRRC all-time wins record holder Didier Grams (1.34.118) were separated by just 0.008 of a second!
Fifth quickest, hoping to become the first rider from Switzerland to retain an IRRC affiliated series title, Lukas Maurer (1.34.551) steadfastly led the Yamaha mounted rider’s challenge.
Completing the second qualifying session top ten were Luca Gottardi, Sweden’s no.1 closed roads exponent Markus Karlsson, Jorn Hamberg, former twice IRRC Supersport Champion Laurent Hoffmann and the continuously improving, Johannes Schwimmbeck.
