IRRC Chimay: Hamberg Snatches Supersport Pole

Excellent conditions all-round at Circuit De Chimay greeted IRRC Supersport exponents, for their nigh-on twenty minute long, second timed qualifying session.

Fastest during first qualifying, Czech roads great Marek Cerveny remained P1 on the live timing leader board for large parts of Q2.

With just over seven minutes of the session to go, Cerveny dropped to second quickest overall with Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Jorn Hamberg going fastest.

The IRRC Supersport title rivals went onto trade impressive sub 1 minute 43 seconds lap times, as the race for pole heated up.

Ultimately it was Hamberg, already a race winner this year at Hengelo and Imatranajo, who snatched qualifying honours, lapping at 1 minute 42.910 seconds, finishing just 0.026 ahead of Cerveny.

Thomas Walther (1.44.451) finished third quickest with another proven Dutch roads force Ilja Caljouw (1.44.569), fourth fastest only 0.118 behind Team Schleizer Dreieck’s Walther.

Fifth fastest Erwan Bannwart (1.45.174), led the local challenge whilst sixth, seventh quickest were TT regular, Southern 100 podium finisher Xavier Denis (1.45.176) and Denmark’s sole representative Anders Blacha (1.45.566).

Wrapping up the top ten most rapid middleweight class exponents were event wildcard Mauro Poncini (1.46.027), Sebastian Frotscher (1.46.351) and prospective Manx Grand Prix newcomer Christian Schmitz (1.46.518).

Manxman Jamie Williams (1.48.225) finished a respectable 21st quickest whilst in total 27 racers lapped under the 1 minute 50 seconds barrier.
