Eleven times successive Northwest 200 winner Glenn Irwin has called time on his international road racing career, with immediate effect.
One of the prime reasons for the Carrickfergus rider’s decision, is to concentrate fully on British Superbike Championship activities next year.
The NW200 Superbike wins record holder, he’s taken since a maiden real road racing outing at the Ulster Grand Prix in 2014, twelve roads scene victories.
Tied fifth on the all time NW200 winners list, added roads highlights have included:
• Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix success in 2017.
• Fastest TT newcomer in history with Honda Racing – 129.85 mph – TT 2022
• Eighth from 2022 Superbike TT.
• Ulster GP podium finishes – 2015
• Top six finish – Dundrod 150
Ever ebullient, it’s been great to cover the NW200 lap record holder’s pure roads achievements.
The undoubted Triangle course yardstick of recent times aboard Paul Bird Motorsport Ducati’s, he more than stuck down his name as an all-time Northwest 200 great, icon.
We will never know whether TT success would have arisen, one thing is for sure, the core racing acumen, raw pace was there in abundance to potentially excel for many years around the fabled, mythical Mountain Course.
