East Coast Racing Festival: Heroic McGee Claims Opening Supersport Encounter Spoils

Producing a quite heroic performance on his return to race action, Mullingar’s Derek McGee won a thrilling six lap opening Supersport encounter at the Mrs Browns Boys East Coast Racing Festival.

Piloting the B&W Racing ZX-6R Kawasaki that has served him so well this season, the newly crowned 2018 Irish Road Race Supersport champion, just had enough pace, race craft and guile to keep at bay till the chequered flag Cookstown BE Racing’s Derek Sheils.

Banking third behind Sheils was Martin Jones Racing’s Michael Sweeney, whilst the sheer competitiveness of the race was illustrated by fourth place finisher Paul Jordan, who finished under three seconds behind race victor McGee.

Outside of the compelling battle for class honours, Kevin Fitzpatrick and Graham Kennedy both quietly impressed in finalising the top six finishers.

Placing’s seventh, eighth and ninth on the result sheets went the way of respectively recent Manx GP winners Andy Farrell, Ballymoney’s Darryl Tweed and James Chawke.

Remaining race finishers were the evergreen Davy Morgan, plus Mountain Course newcomers from last month Alan Johnston and Paul Fallon.
