Den Besten/Performance Racing Achterhoek Partnership Concludes

In a shock turn of events, Performance Racing Achterhoek have elected to part company with reigning IRRC Supersport champion Joey Den Besten, marking the conclusion of an ultra successful partnership which has yielded two IRRC Supersport championships, plus finishing championship runner up in 2015 and 2016.

A newcomer this year to the IRRC Superbike class, Dutch star Den Besten at the first round of the IRRC season at Hengelo secured a series of strong points finishes, which included finishing a very creditable ninth within the second Superbike race.

Reflecting via Facebook, following the Vauxhall International North West 200 about the parting of ways with Performance Racing Achterhoek, the affable Dutchman candidly stated:

“With the transfer from the IRRC Supersport to the IRRC Superbike championship, we took a new challenge this season. We already had a lot of bad luck during the pre season.

In Hengelo we had all problems solved and we picked up the rising line. There was even a podium place secured in the BeNeCup competition. During the North-West 200 we again had bad luck. The engine blew up and I was not allowed to participate in the Superstock race, because of the amount of laps I had done.

Very abruptly, here ended the story and the new adventure for me in the Superbike class. The team has made the decision not to continue with me. A choice that was not taken by Kees or me.

After four successful seasons with numerous victories and podium places, twice champion in the I.R.R.C. Supersport championship (2014 and 2017) and twice second (2015 and 2016), it stops.

Racing on street circuits was what I loved to do. We do not know yet how to proceed from here. We want to thank everyone who has helped me for the past years. In the future I hope to get back on a bike at the start line. If there are any questions, feel free to contact us.”
