The feature race at this years cock of the north road races began in overcast but dry conditions all around the Oliver’s Mount circuit. It was Dean Harrison who got the hole shot on the RC Express racing Kawasaki by MSS performance superbike to lead Dan Frear who made a great start on the NLC components R6 Yamaha whilst Jamie Hamilton and James Cowton where not to far behind in third and fourth positions.
At the end of lap 1 Dean Harrison held a 1.1 second lead over Dan Frear, Jamie Hamilton occupied third place in front of James Cowton who held fourth place. Daley Mathison held fifth place on the Lincs lifting ltd CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade as lap 2 of the feature race began. Dean Harrison built up a 1.5 second lead at the half way point on lap 2 as Jamie Hamilton worked his way past Dan Frear into second place, James Cowton was still in fourth place but not to far behind Hamilton and Frear.
Lap 2 ended with Dean Harrison holding now a 2 second lead over Jamie Hamilton now in second place on the KMR Kawasaki powered by Vauxhall superstock bike. Dan Frear was now in third place in front of James Cowton whilst Daley Mathison and Mick Goodings completed the top six.
Dean Harrison’s lead at the front of the race got bigger as lap 3 started with the rider from Bradford showing the great form that he has displayed at this years cock of the north road races. Jamie Hamilton was still in second place but Dan Frear and James Cowton where locked in battle over second place, both riders giving it everything on their supersport 600 bikes.
Dean Harrison lead Jamie Hamilton by over 5 seconds at the end of lap 3 as Dan Frear and James Cowton where still in close company as lap 4 of the race started. Positions out front at the beginning of lap 4 remained the same whilst Connor Behan occupied a top 10 position on the KMR Kawasaki powered by Vauxhall 636 supersport bike.
The pace at the front of the race was good with Dean Harrison lapping regularly in the 1 minutes 45 and 1 minutes 46 lap times as Dean opened up a 5.5 second over Jamie Hamilton at the end of lap 4. Dan Frear, James Cowton, Daley Mathison, Mick Goodings, Connor Behan and Callum Laidlaw rounded out the top 8. Lap 5 started with Dean Harrison continuing to break away from Jamie Hamilton in second place, the lead was now past six seconds.
Dan Frear remained in third place and was riding superbly, Dan was setting consistent lap times as he remained in front of James Cowton on the CC engineering CBR 600 Honda. So at the end of lap 5 Dean Harrison lead by over six seconds from Jamie Hamilton, Dan Frear was third in front of James Cowton whilst Daley Mathison occupied fifth place.
Laps 6 and 7 during the race saw positions out front remain largely the same but throughout the race their was many a position change including David Hewson moving into the top 10 in the race on his RSV4 Aprilla. The stage was set for the final lap of the race with fans all around the Oliver’s Mount circuit keeping their eyes firmly on one man Dean Harrison.
Dean on the RC Express racing Kawasaki by MSS performance superbike continued to give it 100 percent on the final lap of the race and at the end of lap 8 Dean Harrison crossed the line to take a fantastic feature race win at the cock of the north road races.
Jamie Hamilton finished in second place although not to far in front of Dan Frear who recorded a superb third place finish on the NLC components R6 Yamaha supersport bike. James Cowton produced another good performance finishing in fourth place whilst Daley Mathison recorded a brilliant fifth place finish in front of sixth place finisher Mick Goodings.
Connor Behan finished in a good seventh place, Callum Laidlaw rode consistently throughout to finish in eighth place on his CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade, David Hewson and Jules Croft rounded out the top 10. Leading newcomer in the race was Jochem-Van-Den-Hoek, Jochem competing on the Ice Valley racing by Motorsave ltd R1 Yamaha finished in a highly creditable 16th position.
The feature race at the cock of the north road races has seen over the years many a star rider win the prestigious race and for this year the race winner is the fastest rising star on roads circuits, a legend in the making, Dean Harrison.
