Classic TT: Tuesday Night Practice Report

Classic TT: Tuesday Night Practice Report

Closely monitoring Manannan’s Cloak on the Mountain, Tuesday night’s Classic TT practice session got underway on time at 6:20 PM, a pleasant surprise it has to be said for competitors, teams, fans and marshals.

Setting the Superbike pace this evening was the Flying Kiwi Bruce Anstey. Just scratching the surface of the potential of the 2014 race winning Padgetts YZR 500 Yamaha, the 13 times TT winners lap speed of 121.932 mph, was more than enough to top the time sheets.

Second and third fastest Kraus Racing’s Ivan Lintin (121.094) and Classic TT debutant Derek Sheils (121.039) both showed good form as did Horst Saiger (120.894), Jamie Coward (120.824) and the final remaining rider to lap in excess of 120 mph, Team York Suzuki’s David Johnson.

Laylaw Racing’s Ian Lougher sprinted to the top of the Lightweight 250 practice leader board, lapping at 113.994 mph, overhauling second fastest tonight lap record holder Bruce Anstey (113.010).

Third quickest fellow multiple times TT winner Dan Sayle (112.131) showcased why he could be a dark horse for a podium finish.

Whilst class specialists Chris Moore (110.160), Gary Vines (110.130), Phil Harvey (108.496) and Paul Owen (107.940) all looked in good fettle, same applied to JRC Racing’s Dan Kneen lapping at just a whisker over the 107 mph mark.

Michael Dunlop’s high profile return to two stroke machinery, saw him finish 14th fastest aboard the Turner Racing TZ 250 Yamaha, lapping from a standing start at 102.656 mph.

Phil McGurk (99.967) headed a close fought Junior practice session in front of Jamie Coward (99.397), Alan Oversby (99.320) and six times international road race winner Lee Johnston (99.309), with under ten seconds covering the four of them.
