First and foremost endless respect towards the Chimay Classics organisers, who had various obstacles thrown in front of them ahead of the first pure road race in Belgium for two years.
Post qualifying, opening race action, Sunday’s competition around Circuit De Chimay didn’t disappoint for those in attendance as many a potent yesteryear machine pilot excelled.
Those to clinch race wins included Marc Beltman from the Netherlands, 750 Race 2 winner and victor within the final IHRO (International Historic Racing Organisation) contest.
Tom Peeters, Pascal Ghekiere, Kris Sonneborn took the Vintage 50cc, Vintage 200cc, Vintage race spoils with 250cc, 350cc race 2 honours going the way of Luxembourg’s Marc Michot and Raf Blanckaert.
Blanckaert would also feature strongly in the IHRO races, finishing runner-up respectively to Bart Crauwels and the above mentioned Beltman.
Post Classic C2 Races 1&2, Post Classic C4 Races 1&2 were won by Jimmy Lafineur, Endurance race winner Louis Wuyts whilst others to enjoy Chimay Classics success included:
Jan Thomsen (Post Classic G3 Race 1), Yannick Astier (Post Classic G3 Race 2), Oldrich Wisniowski (250cc Race 2), Etienne Raffay (350cc Race 2).
Jurgen Couvreur/Peter Deneire (Sidecar G2 Races 1&2), Pierre Loison/David Dufrene (Sidecar G1 Race 1), Elias Vanwollegham/Franck Vanwolleghem (Sidecar G1 Race 2), Laurent Pierat/Antoine Poiret (Post Classic Sidecars Race 1).
The next race event at Circuit De Chimay, takes place in just under a weeks time as the IRRC season opener takes main attraction.
