Michael Dunlop made it back to back Supersport victories at the Armoy Road Races, after an ultra close, enthralling contest with Mullingar’s Derek McGee.
The seven lap Clyde Shanks Supersport race began with B&W Racing backed McGee getting the hole shot ahead of McAdoo Kawasaki’s Adam McLean.
As lap one finished just 0.361 covered McGee and opening 600 race runner-up McLean. Wilson Craig Racing’s Davey Todd held third with 19 times TT winner Dunlop back in fourth place.
It wasn’t long tough till the Ballymoney roads giant moved up the order, jumping up to second on lap 2, under 0.4 in arrears to 2018 Duke Road Race Rankings Champion McGee.
Dunlop would hit the front on lap three and open by lap four an advantage of a shade under half a second.
Many at this point I’m sure thought this is race over, ‘MD’ will run away with it now. Well this didn’t happen and some!
McGee fought back, re-taking the lead on the sixth and penultimate lap as only 0.015 separated the victory contenders.
An exhilarating final lap concluded with Dunlop edging McGee for the race win by just 0.028 of a second!
Third from another Armoy Supersport classic was Tobermore’s McLean with fourth going to aforementioned reigning IRRC Superbike Champion Todd.
Dominic Herbertson showed good pace on route to 5th as Joe Loughlin, Paul Jordan, Andy Farrell, Joe Thompson and David McConnachy rounded out the top ten finishers.
Lead Armoy newcomer was Market Rasen’s Phil Crowe, finishing a more than respectable 11th.
