Newly introduced to the schedule this year, the ABO Energy Super Twins race kick-started this early-evening, Armoy 2024 racing.
With pesky patches of rain entering the scene pre-race, it didn’t seem that the pace would be as red-hot as witnessed in qualifying.
Post the race been put back by over one hour (inclement weather related), the action sped into authority at close to 6:40 PM.
Dropped to a six-lap distance, pole-sitter Jamie Coward made the most prosperous start and by lap one’s end was one second in front of Michael Browne.
On lap two though RS660 Aprilia vaulted Browne had taken chunks out of Coward’s lead, closing to within 0.222 of a second.
Paul Jordan’s retirement saw Michael Sweeney, Barry Furber fast forwarded to third, fourth.
Browne’s firm pursuit of Coward continued during lap-three, there was now just 0.186 separating the ‘130 Mph Club’ TT members.
The gap between first and second, narrowed marginally again on lap five, 0.072 was KTS Racing’s Coward lead.
On lap six, Bob Smith Spring Cup winner Browne found the key to P1 and as the sixth, final lap beckoned had attained a 0.232 margin over Coward.
A thrilling last lap would see Coward re-group and remarkably take winners laurels by 0.012 of a second!
Skerries Sprint victor Sweeney joined Coward, Browne on the podium. Furber took fourth with Gareth Arnold, Michael Gahan having good runs to fifth, sixth.
TH Racing’s Jay Bellers Smith seventh, finished best newcomer as Dean McMaster, Sean Brolly, Bailey Harker wrapped up the top ten.
Remaining riders to finish were Mark Johnson (11th), John O’Donovan (12th), Conor Maguire (13th), Lee Osprey (14th), Ashley Robson (15th) and Dave Walsh (16th).
