80th Anniversary Gold Cup Previews – Part 5 – Sidecar Races

Sidecar drivers/passengers always entertain, thrill those spectating trackside.

This is the case times a trillion at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.

The only road race venue in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland to boast three wheeling action, roads scene super-fans love witnessing up close the ever-spectacular outfits.

Eleven crews have entered this week’s Gold Cup, J.Hughes Plant Hire Sidecar encounters.

Fourteen times TT winner Ben Birchall/Mark Wilkes (Hager – Louis Christen Racing Honda) start-list inclusion, ups the ante competition wise.

Absent from Scarborough since 2022, driver Birchall, rightly considered amongst the all-time great Sidecar TT exponents, as-yet has not tasted success at North Yorkshire’s ‘Nurburgring’.

Southern 100 Champions Kieran Clarke/Rob Coppock (Eddys Moto Tadcaster – Christie Engineering Services Yamaha), fellow persistent Oliver’s Mount race winner chasers Carl Fenwick/Jake Roberts and the Ramsdens Steve & Matty, will be out to stop Birchall/Wilkes ambitions.

Scarborough regulars Greg Lambert/Andrew Haynes (Graham and Ann Ward – Windle Yamaha), James Hanks/Jonathan Kirk (Greg Lambert Sidecar School/JHM Racing – Baker Yamaha), lead the pre-injection propelled crews’ fraternity.

Top four Junior 600 Classic TT finisher Michael ‘Jack’ Russell back on three wheeling duties aside Alice Smith, Mark Hegarty/Jack Knapton (Hegarty Racing – Baker Suzuki) are dark horses for standout finishes.

The rest of the entry is-completed by Bruce Moore/Alex Ludlow (Arcadia Motel Christchurch NZ), Paul Riley/Jody James (Finecut Developments Ltd – DDM F2) and Lee Eastell/Max Eastell (Lee Eastell Engineering Services Ltd – Windle Suzuki).

Heres’ to more superb Sidecar racing tussles at the iconic, worldwide known 2.43 miles long Oliver’s Mount circuit.
