300 Curves of Gustav Havel: Saturday Qualifying Wrap Up

Qualifying day at Horice, saw vastly experienced roads pilots, IRRC ‘Aliens’, improving roads craftsmen steal the limelight.

Fresh from taking a top eight finish at the North West 200, MTP Racing’s David Datzer in style took provisional Superbike pole position.

The reigning Macau GP runner-up registered a best time of 2:16.188 seconds, finishing nigh-on 1.9 seconds faster than former Newcomers Manx Grand Prix winner Kamil Holan.

Superbike Q2 will take place tomorrow, before racing commences.

The genial Datzer also vaulted to overall Supermono qualifying honours, opening his factory Kramer racing account in a formidable manner.

Arguably performance of the day arose within second Supersport qualifying, with Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Jorn Hamberg, unlocking a quite sensational last gasp bout of pace, to finish first on the live timing screens.

Hamberg who had suffered arm-pump issues during Q1, tenth, final timed lap saw him clock a lap time of 2:16.558 seconds, unofficially a new middleweight class lap record.

Second quickest Marek Cerveny, had looked in strong position for pole position before the IRRC Supersport Championship leader’s heroics.

Cerveny’s fellow countryman, Petr Najman, Hamberg’s team-mate Ilja Caljouw were the only remaining participants to lap sub 2 minutes 20 seconds, on route to finishing respectively third, fourth quickest.

Twice TT winner Gary Johnson led the British challenge, finishing seventh fastest.

Aforementioned Czech roads hero Cerveny stormed to Super Twins qualifying success whilst racers not showcased yet, to acquire pole positions for tomorrow’s races, are as follows:

Lukas Fikker (Sport Production 125), Michal Savinkov (125 GP), Nico Kehrer (250 Open). Radek Lamich (Supersport 300), Petr Plichta (Supersport 400).
