It is always great when a new road race/public-roads based hill-climb, appears on the scene.
1.27 miles (2045 metres) long, the Republic of San Marino, Ponte di Fiorentino to Castello di Chiesanuova time trial hosted the most recent CIVS (Campionato Italiano Velocita in Salita) rounds.
Coinciding with the IRRC Horice/Czech TT, Saturday’s races were a non-starter, due to an oil spillage from a practice session.
Because of this, the original plan to run four races altered. Instead, only two races per category would take place on Sunday.
A new track means new track-records and the fastest time (full points for ‘Luca Salvadori L ‘Assoluta Challenge’ – to whom this weekend was-also dedicated) during Sunday’s races was-grasped by none other than Maurizio Bottalico (1.01.79 – Superbike / 1.03.04 – Supersport).
Fresh from record-breaking outings at Luckendorfer Bergrennen in Germany, which confirmed SBK, Supersport European Hill Climb Road Race titles, the eighth, ninth European titles in his career, he continued-on home-soil his rich vein of form.
Bottalico will this month tackle the Historic Junior Classic TT, on 19-plate carried Atherstone Accident Repair Centre/Team Venditti by Faraldo Racing CB 350 K4 Honda metal.
New CIVS SuperOpen 800 class Champion post Sunday’s racing thrills is Daniele Stolli (2023 and 2024 Supersport 300 European Hill Climb Road Race Champion). IRRC Schleizer Dreieck wildcard last year, Francesco Maria Piva premiering last weekend in the SuperOpen 600 (Supersport) category was a third-place finisher x4.
The final CIVS 2025 round will be Saline-Volterra (20th-21st of September), the same time as the season ending IRRC bout at Frohburger Dreieck.
