In the middle of 2024 Manx Grand Prix qualifying week, Road Racing News was fortunate enough to catch up with Ulster Grand Prix 400cc lap-record holder, Callum Laidlaw.
Returning to IOM shores to help out MGP first-timer Michael Mackinnon, who finished a creditable 32nd in the two-lap Senior race, outlined his rule in offering tips a plenty to the 64-plate carrier.
“He’s actually, going around in the car with him, he’s picked it up quite fast, just give him little pointers, don’t overwhelm him because I found when I was learning, people are telling you too much and you struggle to take it all in.”
Fifteenth within the Lightweight TT of 2017, ‘Skoot’ is aiming to be back in TT racing mode in 2024.
“Got a little R7 (Yamaha), going to start building that when I get home and get it ready for the TT, just concentrate on that one event a year, just do enough to get my signatures and just concentrate on it, because I can’t really afford to do much more.”
Last month, Laidlaw who wouldn’t mind a blast on a 400cc steed around the fabled, mythical Mountain Course, made his roads scene return at the Oliver’s Mount, Cock O’The North meeting, piloting CB 500 Honda tackle.
Commenting about the weekend’s racing, Laidlaw stated that he really enjoyed it.
“Really, enjoyed it, was good fun, weather was good which helped, organisation was good.
Just on my little CB, so it was fun, they were fast, really, fast, happy with my lap times.”
