2019 North West 200: Seeley Edges Johnston In Tight Supersport Q1

Blue skies, moderate warm weather, dry conditions all round greeted Supersport competitors, as the middleweight class machines took centre stage at the 2019 FonaCAB International North West 200 In Association With Nicholl Oils.

Making the most of the track time available, the pace during this morning’s opening timed practice session was set by Triangle course wizard, Alastair Seeley.

Finishing just 0.173 of a second behind Seeley on the timing screens, was Ashcourt Racing’s Lee Johnston.

Johnston (4.37.255) competing this year in the British Supersport Championship, underlined today his billing as a pre race favourite, as did third quickest James Hillier (4.38.186).

In all out action mode aboard his own teams CBR 600RR Honda, the roads legend showcased again why you simply cannot discount him, no matter whether he’s carrying a injury, or lacking track time in comparison to his esteemed rivals.

Silicone Engineering Racing’s Dean Harrison (4.40.044) looked in solid, consistent form on route to finishing fifth quickest, whilst fellow countryman, sixth fastest Peter Hickman (4.41.219) aboard the striking TROOPER Triumph also showed his proven quality on the Triangle course.
