When you automatically think of present era Italian road racers, for many one name springs to mind, Stefano Bonetti.
Since joining the TT rider ranks in 2004, ‘Bonny’s event CV features three top six finishes, twenty-four top twenty finishes.
Senior Classic TT runner-up in 2019, in the same year he claimed a famous Super Twins race success at the FonaCAB & Nicholl Oils North West 200.
On Thursday afternoon, Road Racing News gained the genial Italian’s thoughts on a range of TT topics.
When asked how prosperous early qualifying sessions have been, he said:
“Supersport (Gomma Racing Yamaha) ok perfect, Super Twin (Team ILR with Frog Vehicle Developments Paton) engine problems in sixth sector bike ok, new engine fitted in.
In Superbike, trying to find the right feeling with the bike, need some more practice to find the right set-up.”
Looking towards race week, his prime aspirations results-wise, are:
“In Super Twin top 10 would be happy, in Supersport and Superbike top twenty.”
A huge contributor in boosting the popularity, image of real road racing, the TT back home, one cannot but have the upmost respect for Italy’s most successful TT competitor of the 21st Century.
