By Reunited this month, Davey Todd and BE (Burrows Engineering)/RK (Richardson Kelly) Racing joined last week a select group of racers/teams, to have claimed podiums at road racing’s ‘Majors’, the TT Races, Northwest 200, Ulster Grand Prix and Macau Grand Prix.
Aboard M1000RR BMW tackle, supported by MGM, 2024 suitors TAS Racing, 2022 King of The Roads Champion Todd, illustrated impressive form throughout his second Guia Circuit expedition.
Just bested by Peter Hickman in the race for qualifying honours, his race-stint looked in jeopardy following an oil pipe issue.
Post the first race start been red-flagged, Todd was back out for the 12-lap race re-start, thanks to the help of Phil Crowe, providing the necessary part needed for the BE/RK crew to resolve the above showcased technical quandary.
With all back on track, Todd was quickly back into the groove, matching during early race (take two) stages, thirteen times TT winner Hickman.
Ultimately tyre grip problems, would put pay to an overall forthright pursuit of FHO Racing’s Hickman, with Todd finishing at the race’s conclusion, almost 29 seconds in arrears.
Nevertheless, a very positive Macau GP venture for the ever-affable Englishman, who set a new PB lap time of 2 minutes 24.880 seconds.
Speaking post-race, the triple Northwest 200 race winner stated:
“It was awesome to be back with the Burrows Engineering / RK Racing team for the Macau GP. The boys worked hard all week giving me a great package which meant we were in the mix every session for the top spot.
After showing in the early laps of the race we had the pace to go with Hicky, we had chosen the softer tyre for the race and towards the end we didn’t have the tyre life to take the fight to Hicky.
To finish P2 and get mine and the team’s first podium at Macau was an awesome feeling! Thanks to the team, sponsors and everyone involved in making it happen!”
BE/RK Racing Team Owner John Burrows, added:
“I have really enjoyed our trip to Macau with Davey. We always said from 2018 when we last worked together if we could do anything together again, we would.
I’m glad that the opportunity came around to do Macau together, working with Davey this time around showed me why he is a professional motorcycle racer as he was a pleasure to work with throughout the event whilst also being the same happy go lucky Davey from 2018.
To finish 2nd at Macau after our problem in the first start was an amazing feeling for me as a team owner.
Obviously, this is Davey’s job now and whilst it is unlikely, we will work together on a full-time basis again I would not rule out working with him again at an event like this. Many thanks to everyone especially Charlotte from RK Racing who helps make this team continue to thrive year on year.”
