Suncity Group Macau Grand Prix: First Practice Report

Despite minimal track time, due to unfortunately two red flags, the pace during today’s opening practice session of the 2018 Suncity Group Macau Grand Prix, was still impressive from the anticipated front runners.

Setting the pace was Macau GP legend Michael Rutter, who looks to have already gelled nicely with his new Aspire Ho/Bathams backed RC213V-S Honda steed.

Rutter’s quickest lap time of 2 minutes 29.232 seconds, gave him an advantage of plus 1.2 seconds over nearest pursuer, Aspire Ho/Bathams Racing team mate Peter Hickman (2.30.434).

Third quickest behind multi Macau GP champions Rutter, Hickman was Martin Jessopp (2.30.535) who showed solid, accomplished form in his maiden International roads outing with the Be Wiser Ducati team.

2017 TT Privateers champion Horst Saiger (2.32.415) quietly impressed in finishing fourth quickest, as under a tenth of a second separated him and PR Racing’s David Johnson (2.32.513) on the time sheets.

Concluding the ten quickest racers from first practice were IRRC Superbike champion Danny Webb (2.32.704), Derek Sheils (2.32.964), Marek Cerveny (2.34.036), PRL Racing’s Sam West (2.35.719) and German IRRC great Didier Grams (2.36.314).

Leading the newcomers challenge finishing a very respectable 16th quickest, was Frohburg Superbike victor Davey Todd (2.38.145), whilst fellow event debutant Paul Jordan (2.38.894) also showed a good turn of pace to finish 18th fastest.
