Stare Mesto: New Official Lap Record, SBK Victory For Datzer

Pristine conditions, a handy dose of sunny weather, the factors were there for a record-breaking Superbike encounter during the ‘Old Town’ meet, the Czech roads season opener, Stare Mesto (Slovacky Okruh).

The ten-lap SBK race saw 2022 IRRC series runner-up David Datzer, maintain and some the form he illustrated across Saturday’s qualifying sessions.

Unofficially the new lap-record holder yesterday, there was if’s, but’s, maybe’s this afternoon with the affable German aboard his Oktoberfest liveried BMW, blasting the former quickest ever time, lapping at 1 minute 31.509 seconds.

This is the first ever lap at Stare Mesto, to nudge under 1 minute 32 seconds.

We’ve got to also remember here that Datzer is an event debutant! Remarkable form, pace from the two times Macau Grand Prix podium finisher.

Post history making exploits, ‘Datzii’ would go onto wrap up race honours, finishing post the tenth, final lap of the race, 4.153 seconds ahead of Garo Racing’s Tomas Toth, who also surpassed the previous outright lap record, held by Karel Pesek.

KRTZ Motorsport’s Jiri Petrla took third as Tomas Altendorfer, Bohdan Schaal, Christian Mario Ciullo, Petr Vajner, Martin Baca occupied placings fourth to eighth.

Others to achieve race finishes, chalking up ninth to eleventh place finishes were Stanislav Vaculik, Lubos Jelinek and Michal Podrabsky.
