Oliver’s Mount Top 8: Connor Wade

Oliver’s Mount Top 8: Connor Wade

Next to take part in Road Racing News, revamped Oliver’s Mount Top 8 series is two stroke connoisseur, Hertfordshire’s Connor Wade.

Yusha Racing’s Wade, a top three finisher within his first dabble with England’s sole active roads course (2022 Steve Henshaw Gold Cup), answers to the set of questions, are as follows:

Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?

“First memory of Oliver’s Mount would be getting a heart attack walking up that chuffing hill, that’s a memory that never goes!

All jokes aside, I came to watch some friends race in 2019 and as they left the floor going over Jefferies jumps, I said, ‘man I’ve got to try this’. Admittedly I do it now but slower and less graceful.”

Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?

“Honestly, it’s the people, the support from people watching on the banks who paid hard earned cash to watch us.

I also absolutely love racing with some of my best mates, having huge battles and then getting off the bikes and having a beer in the evening.”

Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?

“Favourite part has got to be the run down to mount side on the 600 for me. The bike just picks up so much speed as the hill is so steep, like you just can’t throw gears at the thing quick enough.

You’re leaned over on the side of the tire, then a huge slam of the breaks, the rear is trying to overtake the front, and you feel like you’re going to fall off the edge of the world as you look down into Scarborough. It’s bloody brilliant.”

Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?

“Best moment would be getting in the podium in my first weekend there on my dream bike a Honda RS250.

Getting one to go round without any problems is hard enough, then to get on a podium at my first weekend? Man, what a feeling. Rewarded myself with a big McDonald’s on the way home!”

Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?

“For me Joey Dunlop and John McGuinness. Can’t tell you how many old vids I’ve watched of them flying round there on old bikes.”

Q6: Is there one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?

“I’d honestly love to get my Honda RS250 there again but unfortunately, they are just so expensive to run now but like most of us racers, the struggle is funding. But who knows what the future holds ay?”

Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?

“Mint and if I was allowed 2 words it would be F*****g Mint!

Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?

“Honestly, I don’t think I could pick one. I’ve been so lucky to race with so many different people in different classes.

The thing is, we are like one huge family there, we all help each other out and we all want good, safe racing. I respect every guy who lines up next to me and I wish them all a good safe race.”
