An unexpected invitation from Gary Gibson befell Steve from Road Racing News this week, to see how a Dyno works at Gibson Racing.
Arriving early, he was surprised to see Lee Crawford, twice Isle of Man TT Races – third place finisher, setting up his Sidecar in preparation for the upcoming Southern 100 Races. The procedures were expertly carried out by Gary and Lee, thorough checks on all aspects of Lee’s engine run, revealed a small crack in the water pump.
Gary explained “It is good to catch this problem now and not at the Southern 100, it would be game over!”
More runs on the Dyno, lots of engine mapping and refuelling throughout the day, Steve’s impromptu experience gave a renewed appreciation about how much work goes into Sidecar racing.
After thanking Gary and Lee for the privilege, an ordinary day turned out to be significant.
