Manx GP Ambition For Innovative Ellwood Hybrid

Manx GP Ambition For Innovative Ellwood Hybrid

Innovations define motorcycle racing whether aerodynamic, tyre, suspension, engine, gearing related.

Once in a generation, an engineering pioneer like John Britten, Brian Crighton, Rex McCandless arrives and creates something unique in comparison to mainstream models.

Enter John Ellwood and his Ellwood Hybrid steed.

Powered by a 1173cc engine developing 150 BHP (break horsepower), the machine also features four injectors, reed valve configuration, single speed transmission, specifically designed conrods, pistons.

Based in Sweden, machine inventor, engineer Ellwood had himself hoped to enter the Mountain Course racer ranks this year.

Whilst this has not transpired, the desire to have the Ellwood Hybrid mount racing on Isle of Man shores remains.

Pending all going to plan, it is hoped that Southern 100 winner, TT regular over recent times Richard Charlton will be at the controls for the 100th Anniversary Manx Grand Prix, competing in the unlimited singles class.

Bikes like the Ellwood Hybrid don’t pop up over-night, they are meticulously put together, no stone is un-turned, no area isn’t covered.

I for one would be intrigued to see this bike circulating around the mythical, fabled Manx roads in August.
After all, pioneering new technology, seeing what is possible in terms of motorcycling performance is in the DNA of pure road racing.
