Lightweight MGP Front Runner Hind Talks Mountain Course Racing

Consistently setting the pace throughout practice week, rising new wave roads talent Jim Hind heads into today’s four lap Dunlop Lightweight Manx Grand Prix, as one of the undoubted pre-race favourites.

Looking at one astride the TZ 250 Yamaha, which he has purchased from Dennis Trollope, Hind last evening set a blistering best lap speed of 117.488 mph (19 minutes 16.105 seconds).

Speaking yesterday about his great form over recent days, the affable Englishman stated:

“Yeah, it’s been going good, steady away, sort of got back to where we were in 2019, so happy enough.”

Commenting about the Dennis Trollope built Yamaha, Hind stated that it’s the same steed that he took to two Lightweight class triumphs in 2019.

“It’s the same bike I rode in 2019, Dennis built it but it’s my bike and he just gives us advice and helps us out.”

When asked what is his favourite aspect about the potent, nimble 250 Yamaha mount, he said:

“The power weight, power to weight ratio, nearly as much horsepower as it weighs, to ride it is beautiful, lovely through like Quarry Bends and that.”

In terms of future racing plans, Hind disclosed that he is looking good to be TT 2023 bound.

“Should be back with Barry’s bikes, NLC and Bass Tyres, back on the same bikes.”

The final part of my recent chat with the triple MGP rostrum finisher, revolved around his impressive performance in last June’s Milwaukee Senior TT, which saw him place a very respectable 16th, lap for the first time over the 125-mph lap mark.

“I was pleased to be fair, that race the first lap, first six lap I’ve ever done and the first lap I didn’t know how I was going to hang onto it, finish whatever but then my last lap it was my fastest lap speed, I was pleased with it.”
