Lightweight Class Re-Brand For 2022

Lightweight Class Re-Brand For 2022

The Lightweight class name synonymous with 250cc, 650cc steeds has been dropped for 2022.

From next year on-wards it will be known as the Super Twins TT and this isn’t the only new factor for Twins class exponents.

With the class CC limit been raised to 700, this will allow Yamaha and Aprilia to both have a prominent presence courtesy of their YZF R7, RS660 machines.

Reigning back to back Lightweight TT Champion Michael Dunlop, speaking on tonight’s TT Switch-On issued the following reaction to the regulations change:

“As long as it keeps everyone on a fair playing field.”

Maria Costello MBE added:

“I’m loving all the developments across the whole of the TT.”

The Isle of Man’s quickest TT exponent Conor Cummins added “Never Say never” when posed the question about returning to the Super Twins class.
