IRRC Hengelo: Hamberg Becomes 36th Different IRRC Victor

The opening IRRC Supersport race of 2022 at the Hengelo based Varsselring, saw a keenly contested cross generations for victory between Jorn Hamberg and Czech roads great Marek Cerveny.

Backing up the form he showed during the Benelux Trophy Supersport opener, Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Hamberg jumped into an early lead, leading Cerveny by nigh 0.7 of a second as lap one concluded.

Laps two, three saw the pace setters remain evenly matched with just 0.670 covering them as lap four beckoned.

This proved the crucial point of the race as new wave Dutch roads talent Hamberg, found an extra gear, moving over a second clear.

From here his advantage grew and grew and by lap seven he was almost 4.8 seconds ahead.

He would go onto emerge victorious by eight plus seconds over Cerveny, becoming the 36th different racer to clinch an IRRC affiliated race win.

The final spot on the podium went to Team Schleizer Dreieck’s Thomas Walther, after an enthralling duel for third alongside Ilja Caljouw and IRRC returnee Jonathan Goetschy.

Optimark Road Racing’s Xavier Denis was a solid sixth, the UK’s only representative Mark Purslow opened his latest IRRC campaign in accomplished fashion, placing a creditable seventh.

Whilst remaining places within the top 10 were collected by Michael Hofmann, LSE Racing’s Christian Schmitz and Romain Cleaz Savoyen.
