IRRC Chimay: McLean Denies Tweed In SBK Cracker

From my point of view the top 2025 IRRC SBK race, to date, the fourth, final 1000cc contest of this year’s Chimay Open Trophy meeting, was an absolute crackerjack.

Held in damp, changeable, wet conditions, race leadership reigns per lap, changed on no less than three occasions.

IRRC Superbike Race One winner Gabriel Pons, led the field at the completion of lap one of the trimmed to six-lap distance race, with 0.95 between the front four running group.

By the end of lap two, Never Be Clever Racing’s Darryl Tweed had gained authority, opening a 1.232 gap over Pons. ‘Tweedy’ expanded the race lead on lap three to two seconds plus.

Adam McLean (Performance Racing Achterhoek – Kawasaki) pocketed P2 from Pons on lap four and started to track down Tweed.

With one lap remaining McLean had reduced Tweed’s lead, to under 0.2 of a second. Could Tweed hang onto seal a famous victory?

The answer was no as McLean, bolstering his IRRC SBK Championship lead, scooped victory laurels, beating Tweed to the finish-line by a shade below one second, (0.916 final winning margin).

Under two seconds were between the top four with event wildcards Pons, Ouri Bikkems third, fourth, right amongst the hustle and bustle.

Laurent Hoffmann known for his wet weather, racing craft placed fifth as Sweden’s Pontus Roestlinger, Johannes Schwimmbeck, Nico Muller, Christoph Guerouah, Fedrik Matthys wrapped up the first ten finishers.
