Hickman’s Golden Super Twins NW200 Double

Hickman’s Golden Super Twins NW200 Double

Penultimate race of NW200 race day, the J M Paterson Super Twins race thrust onto the horizon at close to 4:20 PM.

Richard Cooper got the hole shot but was passed at York Corner by Bayview Hotel Paton powered Jeremy McWilliams.

By university, Cooper had the lead back from ex Moto GP participant McWilliams.

McWilliams Paton, slip streamed past Cooper to go back to P1 before Church Corner.

As lap one ended, McWilliams, Cooper were covered by 0.313 of a second.

Pole-sitter Peter Hickman, fresh from taking second in the prior CP Hire Superstock race was P3, 0.533 down on 47 plate carrier Cooper.

Just as on the opening lap, the slip streaming effect across lap two was playing into McWilliams hands.

Despite this, Cooper by the Mill Road Roundabout had re-grouped, regaining P1.

With two laps still beckoning, Cooper enjoyed a nigh half a second lead on McWilliams. Hickman in third was keeping extremely close, proximity.

The pattern of lap three had similar parallels to lap two with Cooper, McWilliams swapping the race lead, Hickman remaining within a striking distance.

Soon Hickman sensing an opportunity, passed McWilliams before Black Hill and was inches behind KMR Kawasaki’s Cooper.

Fourth, final lap proceedings proved as entertaining, enthralling as the previous three laps.

Into Church Corner, Hickman produced a polished manoeuvre and from here sped away to clinch back-to-back Super Twin triumphs.

0.855 covered new four times NW200 winner Hickman, Cooper at the chequered flag.

Top Paton racer McWilliams finished third with Michael Browne, Christian Elkin, Barry Furber completed the first six finishers.

Michael Rutter, nine times a Superbike NW200 victor took seventh, Michael Sweeney swooped up eighth, Gary McCoy was ninth with Barry Graham a creditable tenth.
