Easter Fun At Kirkistown

Easter Fun At Kirkistown
Easter Monday’s Ulster Superbike Championship event at Kirkistown, saw competitors having to deal with all kinds of conditions, ranging from dry, mixed, wet, damp to drying.

Despite the varying track conditions, competition was still at an extremely prominent level.

Runner-up within the opening King of Kirkistown encounter, triple Irish Road Race Superbike Champion Derek Sheils would go one better in the following Superbike race stint.

Roadhouse Macau BMW racer Sheils, had the edge on the quality opposition, going onto emerge victorious by just a shade under four seconds.

Besides Sheils, fellow 20th, 21st Century Irish road-racing greats circulating around Kirkistown, included the evergreen Paul Cranston and now 34 years of age, 21 times TT winner Michael Dunlop.

Whilst action aboard his own teams R6 Yamaha was minimal, fans in attendance got to see the Ballymoney racer’s distinct skillset in the Super Twins category.

The opening Super Twins race, saw Dunlop racing for McAdoo Kawasaki, place fourth almost ten seconds behind former North West 200 race winner, second place finisher Christian Elkin.

Elkin also fared well in the Crown Prince of Kirkistown Supersport races, which yielded rostrum finishes for JMcC Roofing Racing’s Adam McLean.

BE/RK Racing’s Michael Browne in comparison to heroics on Saturday at Bishopscourt, had a relatively low-key meeting, scooping best finishes of fifth times two.

RJ Woolsey, Linton Irwin, Mark Johnson enjoyed Classic 500, 250, 350 triumphs whilst Supersport Cup race 1 honours went to an-other roads regular, Michael Gillan.

I’d be remiss not to additionally mention that Wilson Craig Racing’s Rennie Scaysbrook and BMW F900R Cup Championship leader Richard Cooper (Boyce Precision Engineering/Russell Racing), were also competing.

Fastest North West 200 newcomer in history Cooper, post qualifying sessions, didn’t go onto participate in any of the four-stroke races.
