The Chimay Classics meeting year in year out guarantees iconic sights, sounds, smells and the past weekend’s racing took on a similar theme.
Once again as in 2022 and 2023, UK racers were excelling on Belgian shoes. Pre-TT Classic front-runners Tony Thirkell/William Moralee, equipped with an MRE (Mike Richards Engineering) BMW outfit, captured Sidecar G3 Post Classic Race One success.
Colin Wilcock, George Thomas took class wins whilst robust Circuit De Chimay campaigner David Tetley doubled up, winning the opening 350cc, IHRO (International Historic Racing Organisation) races.
Four times Manx Grand Prix winner, Classic TT podium finisher, Chris McGahan who also in 1990 finished on the Sidecar TT rostrum alongside Peter Krukowski, accomplished third, second place finishes from 350cc encounters when astride Drixton Honda tackle.
In addition to UK competitors, solo European yesteryear racing specialists collecting race wins were Bruno Gohy (250cc), Jeffrey Vermeulen (750cc), Bart Crauwels (500cc/IHRO Race 2), Jimmy Lafineur (Post Classic Two Stroke).
Amaury Thomas (International Classic Grand Prix), Charl Van Gysel (Post Classic Four Stroke G3), Marc Delaunoy (Vintage Race 1), Tom Peeters (50cc), Louka Raffay (200cc Race 2) and Michael Meersman (Vintage Race 2).
