It’s almost Barry Sheene Classic time and Road Racing News pre-event previews series, opens today with focus upon the bulky, powerful yesteryear Classic Superbike scene.

Amongst the leading names due to battle it out for Motul Classic Superbike honours include Greenall Racing’s Rob Hodson.

In excellent form across Spring Cup, Cock O’The North events, Hodson has developed into a true Oliver’s Mount specialist.

This was further illustrated by joining Dean Harrison, in surpassing this month at Scarborough, the prior existing yesteryear SBK lap record.

With Bradford ace Harrison absent next weekend, ‘130 Mph Club’ TT member Hodson arguably starts top favourite for feature race spoils.

2017 Barry Sheene Trophy winner, Dave Bell (Graham Turnbull Racing Yamaha) will also unquestionably have designs on regaining the coveted accolade.

Added contenders for rostrums, race wins include the leading class force at the Bob Smith Spring Cup, 2016 Senior Manx Grand Prix winner Tom Weeden.

Barry Furber (DC Auto Repairs Newtown), new Team Talk of The Town York Suzuki by Motul Oils signing Mike Norbury.

Adrian Harrison, Joey ‘Yorkshire’ Thompson and Pre-TT Classic winner, Mistral Racing’s Joe Yeardsley.

Other notable entrants include welcome Scarborough racing returnee Mick Goodings (Motocraft Conversions/Bike Tyres Leeds), six times top ten TT finisher Ian Armstrong.

Local favourite Paul Marley, Don Gilbert, Lissy Whitmore (Baxto Racing), Whitby’s Kristian Didelot (Turvey’s Tattoo’s), Michael Bampton (Mistral Racing).

Event on event gaining in popularity with long term Scarborough racing fans, next week’s Classic Superbike action is certain to thrill, compel and most all excite those in attendance at England’s only current closed roads course.
