By Good conditions all round tick, highly competitive grid of riders’ tick, multiple racers in tip top form tick, the signs were there for stellar Supersport racing this evening at Armoy.
As in the prior Super Twins race, there was contrasting opening lap fortunes for Boyce Precision Engineering by Russell Racing’s Michael Browne and Jackson Racing Powered by Prosper2’s Paul Jordan, P1, P4 respectively through the Armoy Homes Chicane.
At lap one’s end, the top three order was Browne, Joe Yeardsley, pole-sitter Jordan.
On lap two Jordan worked his way past Yeardsley (SpinArena.net – 750 Suzuki) and soon began to nibble away at Browne’s P1 ownership. Remaining laps would see Browne, Jordan, locked in-close-proximity with the race leadership changing on more than one occasion.
With one lap to go, below 0.1 covered last year’s Historic Senior and Junior Classic TT winners.
Almost immediately on the seventh, final lap, Jordan and his potent V2 Panigale Ducati berth, sped into first.
Over Turnarobert, Church Bends, Lagge Dams, Lagge Jump, Dunlop’s Leap, Jordan maintained first but Browne was still within striking distance.
As the leading duo entered the Start-Finish straight, Browne was closing, closing.
Ultimately despite sterling efforts, he finished second, 0.023 behind a delighted Jordan.
Yeardsley, continuing the form that took him to victories x2 earlier this month, at the Southern 100, attained third, 2.988 adrift of Jordan.
First rate Armoy newcomer Richard Cooper beat Dominic Herbertson, Michael Sweeney to fourth whilst respective seventh, eighth place occupiers Daracore Racing’s Kevin Keyes, Sean Brolly, both quietly impressed.
Marcus Simpson (D&D Buckley Racing – Triumph), Derek McGee (BE/RK Racing – Ducati) completed the top ten finishers.
