TT 2026 Chat: Good Friends Dave Hewson and Eric Wilson

TT 2026 Chat: Good Friends Dave Hewson and Eric Wilson

Between them, 106 times TT race starters, good friends Dave Hewson (Crew chief to Jamie Coward – Rapid Honda with DriveLife) and Eric Wilson (running Mark Parrett on his Reckle55 Racing Aprilia) are still actively involved with the TT Races albeit now in different-roles (as spotlighted above).

Last Thursday, Road Racing News had a fun filled chat with the pair.

Conversation showcased underneath:

Road Racing News:

Both enjoying the TT?

Dave:

“We are having a good time, first year working with Jamie Coward, a little further to the front then we are used to.

Eric:

“Turning left out the gate!”

Dave:

“We enjoy turning left out the gate, but so far so good, little niggle with the big bike last night but the 600’s flying.”

Road Racing News:

Are the team (Rapid Honda with DriveLife) in general enjoying their first TT because it’s new for the team from BSB.

Dave:

“It’s interesting with having a front running rider, it now feels a bit more like, almost a little bit more BSB because with the big truck and all the infrastructure and the enthesis on.

Were as I suppose for me and Eric it was probably go and have little bit of fun almost and enjoy ourselves, now it’s right we actually need a result and so, it’s good fun still.”

Road Racing News:

Will we see both of you back at the Baja events (Baja International Tourist Cup/San Pedro Martir Hill Climb)?

Eric:

“It’s on the cards, it’s just other things have developed, obviously New Zealand last year takes up a chunk of time and chunk of money and obviously from my point of view third year here with Mark (Parrett), helping him to achieve his 100 starts and beyond later in the week.

We both enjoyed Mexico so much, people were great, fantastic events, back to old school, out of the back of a van.”

Dave:

“That doesn’t feel like BSB professional, it’s great fun!”

Eric:

“I would go back at some stage, even if I did not ride a bike, I would still go back to be part of the events and support them and there’s a few people here, we have two guys coming to Tandragee who have done them as well, so am helping them too.

It’s opened bridges both ways for us going that way and then to encourage any of the Americans that we have already helped to get back but there is two new guys coming for Tandragee, that have done either the hill-climb or the road race, going to be good,
looking forward to working with them.”

Road Racing News:

For both of you, what is your perspective on the new TT film?

Dave:

“Anything that gives the event more exposure, is a good thing I think really, it is going to open it up to a bigger audience and I think it will be a positive for the event.”

Eric:

“I heard it was a love story, so I think the Manxman goings to sink on the way back to Heysham and the evac system going to fail and there is not going to be enough for two of them on the door, one of them is going to have to swim for it!”

Dave:

“Sometimes Eric I think you don’t take these things seriously!”
