TT 2026: News From The Paddock 2

TT organisers issued this morning, the following update, regarding yesterday’s unfortunate incident adjacent to exiting Parliament Square. Road Racing News wishes all those involved a swift and speedy recovery.

“As part of the structured safety review undertaken following yesterday’s serious incident, the spectator viewing area at Parliament Square (Albert Square) will remain prohibited for the duration of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races.

Given the unusual nature of the incident, this precautionary measure has been implemented following an initial assessment by race, safety and operational personnel and reflects the Isle of Man TT Races’ commitment to reviewing and responding to safety considerations whenever an incident occurs.

The review has involved detailed consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident and the wider operational environment.

While the multi-agency investigation process will continue, a number of immediate measures have been identified and implemented ahead of any further activity on the Course this evening.

The safety of competitors, spectators, marshals, officials and all those involved in the event remains our highest priority.

Two spectators remain in hospital and continue to receive treatment. The competitor and all other spectators involved have now been discharged from hospital.

Our thoughts remain with those involved in the incident, together with their families and friends. We would also like to once again thank the marshals, medical teams, emergency and hospital services and all personnel who responded so quickly and professionally.”

British Supersport race winner Jaimie Van Sikkelerus, is another confirmed non-starter.

Van Sikkelerus, before failing to pass the TT medical test (continuing to recover from broken leg injury sustained during testing) was set to make his TT debut, riding Honda machinery provided by TT wins record holder Michael Dunlop MBE.

It’s Legit Racing’s 660 Triumph (painted by The Smallest Cog – Top Gear, Grand Tour host Richard Hammond’s company), piloted by Ryan Garside, is making history at this year’s TT, with the bike and Garside’s Wignall Property’s backed 765RS Triumph, been the first sustainable fuels propelled machines to compete on the Mountain Course.

Finland’s leading roads scene talent Erno Kostamo, has joined the KYT Helmets team for TT 2026.

KTS Racing’s Dominic Herbertson, was happy with his free practice outings aboard factory next generation Supersport Triumph, M1000RR BMW metal, unofficially lapping over 129 mph.

Speaking of unofficial lap speeds from yesterday, word around the paddock today is that Dean Harrison recorded a 131-mph plus lap!

P1 plate holder for the Supersport and Sportbike races, Michael Browne stated he has sorted out insurance issues, to return later this year to Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.

The now restrictor plate fitted Sidecars, top speed is-thought to be near 145 mph.
