2025 Manx GP Chat: People’s Bike Team’s Grant Thomson

The People’s Bike Team have a proven record in helping fast track, aspiring Mountain Course racers careers.

Steve Mercer, the much-missed Dan Hegarty, Matt Stevenson, Stephen ‘Trevor’ Parsons, Stephen ‘Kong’ Thompson, Rhys Hardisty, Nathan Harrison to name but a few, have benefited from the outfit’s wealth of knowledge.

2025 Manx GP competition sees Marc Cubbon’s team working with one of the Isle of Man’s rising roads scene talents, Port St Mary’s Grant Thomson.

“Great to have them behind you, they’ve gone above and beyond for me with help and everything, so can’t thank all of them enough and all my other sponsors because without any of them, I wouldn’t be here.”

Thomson who cites the legendary Joey Dunlop as his road racing hero, made a splendid start to his MGP career on Sunday, setting numerous impressive lap-times the best of whom been from a standing-start – 113.040 mph (time wise just shy of a sub twenty-minute lap – 20 minutes 01.596 seconds).

Summing up opening MGP qualifying circulations, the Blackford Financial Services Pre-TT Classic Senior Superbike race victor, stated:

“Really happy, 113 from a standing start, that was something else to be happy about, unfortunately had a few issues with the Twin (Kelproperties/RPM Motorcycles – Z650 Kawasaki) but before that did 108.7, so was not far off the pace.

Had an issue coming out of Kirk Michael through Bishopscourt, unfortunately it span-a shell on the run just after Bishopscourt.

But happy with how everything’s going, just chipping off every lap and enjoying it.”

In the run-up to his maiden MGP campaign, Jurby Airfield front-runner Thomson had a productive Southern 100, reeling off six top fifteen finishes, going toe-to-toe with a plenitude of international road racing aces.

“Mega Southern 100, we had a couple of top ten finishes on the 600, thirteenth on the big bike, so it’s all been going pretty well and then two wins at the Pre-TT on the Junior and Classic Superbike, so really happy with it.”
