Book Review: Middle of The Road – A Privateer Road Racer’s Story

Book Review: Middle of The Road – A Privateer Road Racer’s Story
You read some racer’s auto biographies and think afterwards, that was a decent publication but not one that felt fully true to its nature.

Michael Russell’s Middle of The Road – A Privateer Road Racer’s Story, is in juxtaposition to this.

The vibe of the book, putting together fun filled stories, with light-hearted humour, ‘Jack’ Russell’s sheer passion for all forms of motorcycling, real road racing shines through.

I could imagine, reading it on a lengthy flight, train, car, coach journey and suddenly looking at my watch and thinking, the times flown past!

It gets your attention but not in a dramatic, shock way more from an enjoyable read perspective.

There are interesting stories a plenty, for instance involving camel spiders, encountering a bull, last dash trek to make the ferry.

The 2009 Senior, 2013 Super Twins Manx Grand Prix winner also goes in depth into his racing psyche, racing career, the obstacles he has overcome, most cherished moments, the ten race TT challenge, his Sidecar racing exploits with ‘Larry’ the Sidecar.

A definite five-star racing from me, albeit I know I am biased but I’m sure various not associated with real road racing readers, will additionally give this book good reviews.
