TT 2025 Chat: The Ever Jovial Michael Sweeney

Always jovial, every time you chat to Michael ‘Micko’ Sweeney, you always gain just how much he loves racing on the roads.

Earlier this month, the Skerries rider claimed an emotional second place finish, from the second Super Twins race at the Northwest 200, two years since a well-documented major incident at the same event.

Speaking about this, the former Duke Road Race Rankings Champion stated:

“That was probably one of my best moments since I’ve been racing, it was unbelievable.

Just to get it at the Northwest, after the accident a couple of years ago, in the same race was pretty-special.”

Reviewing his opening practice/qualifying exploration of TT 2025 (Tuesday evening non timed practice), the 2022 Irish Road Race Superbike Champion said:

“It was good to get the head back in and see which way the bikes are behaving, lot of damp patches was not ideal, nowhere near ideal. But lucky enough we did get out, got a couple of laps in.”

Discussing his ultra-competent TT 2025 machines assemblage (Martin Jones Racing M1000RR BMW, EM Building YZF R6 Yamaha, MSR Racing RS660 Aprilia – built by him and friends), Sweeney who unofficially banked a new personal best Mountain Course lap-speed yesterday (126.657), said:

“We’ve a good stable of bikes, the bikes are good, it’s down to just getting the suspension nearly right now, to work around here.

They worked quite at well at the Northwest, so if we can get them to that, there’s a lot of changes for here, different surfaces, different track, a lot of different stuff here.”

After TT 2025, Sweeney returns to Irish national roads competition at the returning Tandragee 100, Armoy ‘Race of Legends’ whilst an appearance within the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup at Oliver’s Mount, is additionally muted.
