Although not officially confirmed by the MCUI, Skerries Michael Sweeney clinched at Armoy the 2022 Irish Road Race Superbike Championship title.
Going into Armoy, 90 points ahead of leading chaser Graham Kennedy, Sweeney’s runs to second, third respectively in the Open A, ‘Race of Legends’ encounters proved more than enough for SBK title honours to be wrapped up.
No lower than third in all national Superbike races participated in across 2022, Martin Jones Racing’s Sweeney has taken five race wins including feature race triumphs at Cookstown, Skerries and Faugheen.
Additionally retaining the national Super Twins title at Armoy, Sweeney goes into next month’s Mid Antrim 150 aiming to wrap up a unique hat-trick of four stroke Irish roads Championship titles.
Before this Sweeney’s attentions turn towards the Manx Grand Prix, tackling the yesteryear classes for CSC Racing, John Chapman Racing and Mistral Racing.
